With a PhD in Computer Science on machine learning, Professor Page has over 15 years of experience in bioinformatics, sequencing and cloud computing. During the pandemic, he led a COVID genomics sequencing centre as part of COG-UK for Eastern England, sequencing over 80,000 genomes and providing support to 13 countries.
Prof. Page spent 10 years at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, Cambridge in Pathogen Informatics and then 5 years at the Quadram Institute as the Head of Informatics. He has over 150 publications in microbial genomics, bioinformatics, sequencing methods, and machine learning, and has written dozens of bioinformatics tools for microbial genomics which are used world over such as Roary and Gubbins.
He currently co-hosts the Micro Binfie Podcast, runs annual bioinformatics hackathons and is a visiting Professor in the School of Computing Sciences at the University of East Anglia.
